The 2020 Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 26th November, 2020 following a host of proposed changes to our constitution the incoming executive team were voted in. As we all know 2020 was a challenging year for all, with an abbreviated season, reduced final series and a few interruptions to business as usual due to COVID – 19. At the AGM the association has welcomed in the youngest executive team it has ever seen, with the oldest member being 28. The fresh faced executive, however are well equipped to take on the challenges that lay ahead and are looking forward to upholding the responsibilities that are bestowed upon them.

In his 5th year on the executive, Robert Morey was elected as the President for the first time after serving as the Director of Recruitment and Retention and Assistant Executive Officer in the years prior. Rob has provided some very valuable insights into the executive over the years, working hard in bringing in new members and in later years focusing on reaching out to past members and bringing them back into the mix. He has also provided great support to the executive officer and team in general throughout his years as the Assistant Executive Officer. When asked about how he feels about being elected as president Robert said, ‘I am excited for the upcoming season, I want to see the association do well and maintain the great reputation that it currently holds.’ People close to Rob knows that he is really focused on the culture around the association, Rob continued to say ‘I want to see the culture in the association build and can’t wait to get started working with everyone.’
After a busy first year in the role, Harrison Bayssari was re-elected as the Executive Officer. During 2020 Harrison was tasked with keeping the association going in the midst of a pandemic, taking on extra responsibilities as the COVID – 19 Safety officer, preparing return to play documents and COVID safety plans that were successfully utilised throughout the season. Harrison has worked extremely hard this year with more added to his plate, he still did not let this hinder his on field performance either, being appointed to the 2020 number 1 game and receiving the associations Patrons trophy.
The Director of Finance and Sponsorship role is a very difficult role at the best of times, in 2020 this job was made even harder due to the impact of COVID – 19. Ethan Murray who has been part of the association for almost 10 years now was voted in to the role for the first time on the Executive team. Running his own successful business, Ethan brings a level of professionalism that is needed in such a vital role within the association. His long term commitment on the field, at training and around the association continues to grow in his new role, welcome on board.
After his first year in the role of Director of Refereeing and Development Michael Karam was re-elected into the position for season 2021. Michael has brought about a level of commitment and dedication to the coaching of Match Officials that Parramatta Referee’s is renowned for. During his first year Michael made many changes to the status quo of the Coaching and Development of referees making coaches and referees more accountable and providing everyone with resources and education to better themselves both on and off the field. We expect 2021 to be no different.
Again, returning for a second year Isaac El Hassan will continue in his role as the Director of Recruitment and Retention. Isaac has made some very exciting headway in the recruitment and retention space ensuring that incoming members are welcomed properly and provided with everything they need for a successful start to their refereeing journey. Isaac has also provided our members with great support when needed ensuring that everyone is enjoying the journey. Welcome back Isaac.
Corey Fisher took a year off in 2019 and re-joined as an active member in 2020 as if he never left. At the AGM Corey was voted in as the Director of Events and Functions. Anyone who knows Corey understands that he is up for a good laugh and wants to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. This role couldn’t be a better fit for him. After having to put a halt on all social events in 2020 Corey and the rest of the executive team are hopeful we can reintroduce some social events for season 2021. Watch this space.
Last but not least, Olivia Lawne was elected to the role of Assistant Executive Officer for her first time on the Executive Team. We welcome Olivia and trust that she can provide quality support to Harrison and the rest of the executive team throughout season 2021. Currently an active member, refereeing in the Junior representative squad and also studying at University, Olivia will provide some great administrative acumen to the team keeping everyone on task.
