Parramatta Referees Stand United in Support of Respect Month

The Parramatta Referees launched Respect Month in style last night, hosting a special evening at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence that brought together officials, partners, and community leaders to celebrate the values that underpin our game.
With over 60 active referees and 25 guests and parents in attendance, the event highlighted the vital role match officials play in Rugby League – while recognising the support systems that make their development and wellbeing possible.
Notable guests included NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden, Parramatta Leagues Club Community Manager Kylie Murphy, and General Manager of Marketing Rebecca Hunt – all joining to show their support for match officials and the Respect Month initiative.

This year’s NSWRL #RESPECT Round, launching this weekend (12–13 April), kicks off a month-long campaign with the powerful theme: “Positive Words Have Power.” It’s a message that Parramatta Referees are proud to stand behind – promoting positivity, acknowledgment, and encouragement at every level of the game.
The evening included dinner, dessert, giveaways, and bowling vouchers for all attendees, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Each active referee was personally presented with a gift by Kylie Murphy, before she was presented with a custom football from the Association proudly showcasing the Parramatta Leagues Club logo.
Kylie spoke about the importance of referees to the game and reiterated Parramatta Leagues Club’s strong commitment to the Association, both financially and personally.

Association Executive Officer Harrison Bayssari took the opportunity to thank those who continue to support Parramatta Referees on and off the field.
“We want to offer our deepest thanks to the Parramatta Leagues Club,” Bayssari said.
“Their generous support is the backbone of everything we do. From paying our referees’ match fees to funding coaching programs, communications gear, HUDL systems, physio support and more – your contribution allows us to grow, improve, and enjoy the game we love.”

He added, “We’re proud to wear the Parramatta Leagues Club logo on our uniforms, and it’s been fantastic to build such a strong relationship with them in recent times.”
Bayssari also acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the NSWRL and NSWRLRA:
“Thank you to the NSWRL for championing Respect Round and for allowing us to access and train at this world-class Centre of Excellence,” he said.
“And thank you to the NSWRLRA for the ongoing educational support that continues to challenge and develop us as a leading Association.”

He concluded with a timely reminder:
“Respect is about acknowledgment – and today, we proudly acknowledge all those who help us do what we do.”
The event marked more than the start of Respect Month – it was a celebration of culture, connection, and the community that drives Rugby League forward.
