Kasey Badger’s Rise To The Top

Kasey Badger made history in the Rugby League World Cup of 2022, becoming the first female to officiate a men's World Cup game.

Fast forward to Round 27 of 2023, and Kasey achieved another milestone as she debuted in the NRL, stepping into the field as one of the first female referees in the one-referee model, alongside her fellow squad member Belinda Sharpe. Kasey took charge of the Gold Coast Titans vs. Canterbury Bulldogs match on September 3rd.

Kasey's journey in officiating began in Parramatta, where she worked her way up through the junior ranks.

Her dedication saw her appointed to the NRL team of full-time officials in 2019, making her one of the pioneering females in the league.

Since then, Kasey continued to serve as a touch judge in the NRL (after debuting in 2015 and has refereed games in the NRLW, including multiple NRLW Grand Finals. Beyond her on-field achievements, Kasey has also made significant contributions off the field.

Kasey became one of the first ever female Junior Representative coaches in the NSWRL. She is also the first ever female to officiate an NRL game as the video referee / bunker official.

Kasey's international refereeing career started in 2012, and she made history again in June 2022 by officiating the women's international match between New Zealand and Tonga.

Her accomplishments led to her inclusion in the officials squad for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup, where she was named as the referee for the match between Wales and Tonga, becoming the first woman to officiate a men's World Cup game.

Notably, Kasey encountered numerous setbacks, including several injuries too numerous to list. However, her remarkable resilience and adaptability serve as a true testament to her character.

The Association takes immense pride in Kasey's achievements and celebrates her journey to the top.

In return, Kasey has continuously given back to the Association, attending events, coaching referees, and providing guidance.
